Miss Representation, from Miss Representation.org is being presented by TARP, the Tolerance and Respect Project, of Freeport Community Services. This highly acclaimed documentary film by Jennifer Siebel Newsom explores how the media’s misrepresentations of women and girls have led to the under representation of women in positions of power and influence. Mainstream media bombards children and adults alike with overwhelming messages that marginalize and objectify women. These messages can have damaging effects on girls and boys.
An official selection of the Sundance Film Festival, Miss Representation will be shown at FPAC, the Freeport Performing Arts Center. The movie will be followed by a panel discussion featuring student leaders and representatives from Hardy Girls Healthy Women and Boys to Men.
